Relaxed Cinema at ARC

Beacon Films: film production services in Newcastle upon Tyne, North East England

Relaxed Cinema at ARC, Stockton Arts Centre

Relaxed Cinema Project

Beacon Films is partnering with ARC, Stockton Arts Centre on a series of Relaxed film screenings.

We are supporting ARC to plan screenings with adjustments to make them more comfortable for older and adult audiences who may be autistic, have learning disabilities or specific access requirements.

Anyone is welcome to attend, so long as you are respectful towards audiences with a range of access needs, including people who may need to make noise or move around during a film.

The Beacon Films Screenings are an exciting addition to the range of Relaxed Screenings ARC already offers, which include family friendly relaxed screenings on Saturday mornings and Dementia Friendly screenings on Thursday afternoons.

What is a Relaxed Screening?

  • For most of our Beacon Films Relaxed Screenings the sound and lighting will be “sensory-friendly” Please check details on each film or event listing. This means that the:

  • Lighting is left on a low level

  • Sound is kept at a low level

    There is also:

  • a chill-out space available if you need to take a break

  • You are able to make a bit of noise or movement if you need to.

  • The screening will not be full of people - there will be plenty of space in the cinema.

  • There will be friendly volunteers on hand to help with anything you might need.

  • Due to sensory sensitivities of some of our guests, we do not recommend the screenings for children; particularly those under the age of 2 years old. Please also note the BBFC certificate of the film for any age restrictions on audiences.

  • The films will also be screened with Descriptive Subtitles
